Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 83

After Cole and his wife wrapped up their speech and stepped down from the stage, Selena, clutching a glass of wine, made her way over to them. She started by offering her heartfelt congratulations on their marriage and then apologized for any chaos she might have accidentally caused at their wedding. No one wanted to stir up trouble at someone else's big day, even if it wasn't intentional.

Thankfully, Cole and Everett were on good terms, and both families were tight-knit, so they accepted her apology graciously.

Selena had been drinking a bit too much, and the effects were starting to hit her. While she still had some presence of mind, she said, "I'm sorry, but I'm not great with alcohol. I should probably call a night."

Cole's wife was very understanding. She had heard rumors that Mr. Bennett didn't give a hoot about Selena, but seeing it firsthand was still a shock. Any woman in that situation would be driven up the wall, right? Yet, Selena managed to keep her cool despite everyone's odd stares, which was pretty impressive.

With newfound respect, Cole's wife gently offered, "Mrs. Bennett, let me arrange a car to take you home." Everett had left earlier and probably took the car with him. Since Selena had been drinking, Cole's wife was worried about her safety on the way back. Selena appreciated her kindness but politely declined, "Thank you, but I have a driver. Everett left one for me."

Cole's wife smiled. "Alright then, take care and get home safely."

Selena left the yacht and stood at the harbor. The night breeze was exceptionally chilly, and her thin dress did little to protect her, giving her goosebumps. But she seemed oblivious, slowly making her way towards the main road.

The truth was, there was no driver waiting for her. With Everett so focused on Margot and the baby, how could he possibly remember to leave a driver for her? Her lie was just a way to hold onto the last shred of her dignity, not wanting to look pathetic.

After the divorce, she still had to live in Newport. She wasn't going to be seen as the pitiful woman everyone felt sorry for; she'd make sure everyone knew it was her decision to leave that jerk Everett.

As Selena walked, her head grew

dizzier. She wasn't sure if it was the strong wind blurring her vision or the

exhaustion from her high heels,

discomfort

but

comfort spread through her body, quickly overwhelming her. Tears began to fall like a string of pearls breaking loose.

She cried until she felt dizzy and choked up, eventually sinking onto a nearby bench. She intended to rest regain her strength, and catch a cab. But the alcohol took over, and she dozed off, lying back and closing her eyes.

In her foggy state, it felt like she was back on that fateful night when she escaped from that sleazy man and called Everett, only for Margot to pick up Sitting on those steps outside, her heart had turned ice-cold.

Suddenly, someone leaned over, gently shaking her shoulder, whispering, "Hey, wake up. You'll catch a cold sleeping out here." Who could it be?

Selena struggled to open her eyes, peering up to see a man in a sharp suit that fit him perfectly. As her vision cleared, she realized who it was.

It was Everett!

Anger flared inside her. She shot up, grabbed his collar, and demanded, "Oh, so you decided to show up?"

Callum was taken aback. He didn't expect her to mistake him for Everett, but considering everything she had been through, it made sense that she'd lash out like this. Softening his voice, he said, "Selena, it's me, Callum."

But Selena wasn't listening. She railed, "Everett, you're a complete jerk! You walked out with that woman, so if you've got any guts, don't bother coming back home!"
