Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 82

Selena did her best to reason with him. "Everett, is this really the time to leave? If she's in pain, Derick can take her to the hospital. You're not a doctor, so what's the point of you tagging along?"

Her words seemed to ease Everett's tension a bit. His lips moved slightly, and then Margot suddenly clutched his hand, panic in her voice, "Everett, I... I think I'm bleeding..."

His eyes darkened immediately, and he leaned in to reassure her softly, "Don't worry, you'll be fine."

He then pulled Selena aside, as if afraid of upsetting Margot, and said in a low tone, "Selena, enough. I'll be right back."

Selena had heard these hollow promises too many times to count. Once he left, he never came back, leaving her to handle the awkwardness on her own.

She took a step closer, clinging to his shirt tighter, her knuckles turning white. "Everett, you brought me here to play along today. There are so many people around, and the moment you leave, everything's going to get back to Grandfather!" Irritation flickered across Everett's face. "Selena, you said it yourself-it's just an act. You're just someone I hired for this role. Remember, you can't stop me!"

His harsh words hit Selena hard, leaving her feeling as pale as a ghost. Without a hint of kindness, he shrugged her off, picked up Margot, and walked away.

As Margot was carried off, she shot Selena a triumphant grin. Even if Margot's acting was terrible and her tactics were basic, it didn't matter. Everett favored her, and he'd always believe her, no questions asked.

Being the favorite sure gave Margot a ton of misplaced confidence.

Selena chuckled bitterly at herself. Just moments ago, she had called Margot foolish, but now it seemed she was the foolish one for hoping he'd choose her.

Ten minutes later, the wedding ceremony kicked off, and Selena strolled back into the banquet hall like nothing happened.

Cole and his wife were on stage, sharing their sweet love story, as Selena sat at her assigned seat, quietly sipping her drink.

A voice dripping with sarcasm cut through the air, "Selena, three years ago, Margot beat you, and even now, you still can't surpass her. If I were you, I'd be too embarrassed to show my face here." en

Rebecca, dressed to the nines as always, had a sweet face, but her words were as sharp as daggers. "Even though you're not much, losing to someone like Margots a new low. How do you even have the guts to sit here?"

She finally saw her chance to get back at Selena.

Selena glanced at her, then knocked back her glass of wine in one gulp. With a thud, the glass hit the table as she smirked, "Rebecca, keep running your mouth, and I'll make sure you regret it!"

Rebecca wasn't usually intimidated by the seemingly weak Selena, but something about her gaze and aura made her hesitate. Her voice wavered, "You wouldn't dare!"

Selena moved her hand from the glass to the wine bottle, "Try me."

A flicker of fear crossed Rebecca's eyes, and for a moment, she was genuinely scared, standing there speechless.

Selena gave a dismissive laugh and walked off.

As soon as Selena was gone, Rebecca's courage returned, and she fumed with anger. Who did Selena think she was, threatening her like that? She swore she'd make Selena pay! Muttering curses under her breath, Rebecca stormed after her, but just as she was about to grab Selena's hair, someone suddenly stepped in between them.
