Chasing My Ex-wife Back

Chapter 38

Chapter 38

Cole was fuming all through the ride home. He couldn’t believe that today, which was meant to be one of the best days in his life, ended up being so sour.

He had experienced so many heartbreaks. But never did they come with this much pain that he was feeling in his heart. Maybe because his kids were involved this time around.

Cole was brought out of his thoughts in the back seat when his phone rang. He took a glance at the face of his device and instantly rolled his eyes when he saw that it was his father calling.

The phone stopped ringing and almost immediately, it started ringing again.

Cole mumbled some inaudible words and then answered the call.

“What the hell, Son? What have you done?”

“Look, I’m not in the mood, Dad. Let’s just talk later.”

“No. You are not going to hang up on me. We are going to discuss this over the phone and after I’m done with my meetings, I am heading over to your place and we are going to discuss further.”

“How dare you lay your hands on Connie and Vanessa who is your soon–to–be wife. What the hell has come over you?!”

“You are not going to tell me how to behave, Dad. This is my life, my personal business, so stay the hell away from it and please don’t you dare call that bitch my wife. I am not married to her. Hailey is the one I’m married to, remember?”

“Wait, that is what this is all about? Hailey? The last time I heard, she didn’t want anything to do with you. Vanessa is carrying your child, the heir to all that we have. The baby could be a boy you know. Why are you acting like an asshole?”

“This is the time when Vanessa needs you the most. You need to be there for her and your child, make them feel loved and not the other way around, threatening them and scaring them away.”

Cole sighed, massaging his temple. This was one of the days he wanted to show off his twins but he knew he couldn’t, because of their safety.

“What now? So you trust strangers more than your son?”

“Don’t make this conversation a sour one, Cole. This is me being so concerned about you. I know you are old enough to make your decisions but you are acting too absurd! I mean, isn’t this what you have always wanted? To get

married to Vanessa. And now that she is expecting your baby, you really want to throw everything away?”

“Dad, I know you may be blinded by your friendship with the Summer family or the fact that you are very fond of Vanessa but believe me when I say I am not the father of that damn child.”

“How can you say such, Cole? Who doesn’t know you and Vanessa are a couple?”

“That’s the point. Vanessa is not the saint you all think she is.”

“That still doesn’t give you any reason to almost kill her and be rude to her mother.”

“Hearing you say this. I honestly wish I had done something much worse to them?

“You need to keep calm, Cole, and not let your anger make you do what you would regret

regret

“Enough of the lecture, Dad. You are not in my shoes so you have no idea of what I’m going through.”

“I understand that you are doubtful about paternity. Why not be good to her and when the baby is born, you can always request DNA.

“Are you that desperate for a grandchild?” The irritation not going unnoticed in Cole’s voice.

Moore was about to respond to his Son’s question when Cole cut in. “I am done with this conversation. And please stay away from me and my home. Only call me when it’s business– related. Cole ended the call. He was about to toss his phone aside when he changed his mind and dialed Jess who picked up almost immediately.

“Been waiting for your call. How did it go?” The excitement in Jess’s voice didn’t go unnoticed.

“Terrible, Jess. Very terrible!

“The conversation wasn’t about making peace?” Jess asked, feeling confused.

“I didn’t even get to see her. Apparently, Vanessa and her mother visited earlier and told Hailey that she’s pregnant. with my baby.”

“Holy, Shit. I’m so sorry dude.”

“I just left Summer’s home.”

“What did you do, Cole?” Jess panicked, knowing he was always on his worst behavior whenever he was angry.

“I wish I had killed them both.”

“I hope you didn’t do something stupid, Cole.”

“Those bitches hurt me so bad. They literally ruined what was about to be the beginning of my happily ever after.”

“I know, Cole. I understand how hurt you are but you need to be careful. Those ladies are brutal. This just shows that they wouldn’t stop at anything to get what they want. They would do evil and when you retaliate, they take advantage of it.”

“Please tell me you didn’t touch them.”

“Of course, I did. I mean, that was the purpose of going to their home. I almost choked her to death if not for the hefty security men who pulled me away.”

He heard Jess sigh deeply.

“She could sue you for Assault, Cole. She could take advantage of this.”

“Okay, now you are making me regret that I didn’t end her life completely

“I mean who cares if she sues me for assault? That is why I’ve got you as my lawyer.”

“I know, Cole. Vanessa plays dirty regardless. You’ve got two little boys who look up to you as their Daddy. Your

reputation matters to them and Hailey, Hailey is yet to believe you are innocent from this. If more accusations keep coming in, then you are going to tire her out.”

Cole sighed deeply, knowing Jess was right.

“I am not blaming you for what you did. I mean, Vanessa went too far and needed to be taught a lesson. If you had called me before you went to her place, I would have advised you against it.”

“But don’t feel bad. Whatever will be will be. Vanessa is going to get what’s coming for her.”

“And I’m so sorry that the stuff with Hailey didn’t work out today. I’m still going to try to negotiate with her lawyer today and I will see you after work.”

Cole ended the call with Jess in defeat.

“At this point, I think I am just being a nuisance, Debbie mumbled, placing Hailey’s phone back on the couch. It had stopped ringing and Hailey refused to pick up Cole’s call.

you

“No, you are not. I appreciate everything you do for me.”

“But it doesn’t matter anymore! You don’t take my advice so I’d stop interfering in your business.”

“Are you mad at me? Are you giving up on me?” Hailey asked, trying not to feel heartbroken.

“We are still best friends but I think I would rather mind my business when it comes to Cole. It is clear that your want nothing to do with him so it makes no sense talking about him with you and giving you advice.”

I’m sure you will figure out what to tell the kids.”

Hailey said nothing, staring down at her hands.

The two best friends stared at each other for almost a minute in silence.

Hailey’s phone started ringing again. This time around, Ty’s name appeared across the screen.

Hailey picked up the phone from the couch.

“I should get going. Take care of yourself and if you need anything, I’m just a call or text away.” Debbie said. allowing Hailey to have some privacy for her call.

Hardly had Debbie stepped out of Hailey’s home when her phone buzzed in her purse. Reaching for it. She saw that it was Cole. She picked up as she approached her car.

“Hi, Please were you able to talk to Hailey for me?” Debbie’s heart instantly went out to Cole because she could feel the pain in his voice.

“She is still upset and so concerned about the safety of the twins. Just give her a bit of time and try reaching out to her again. And if she still ignores you. Then I am afraid you would have to move on.

Later that Day.

“It’s true when they say one mistake can cause you to lose everything you work for. I really don’t know what to do anymore.”

“I don’t know what to say either. I wish there was something I could do to make you feel better. I am so sorry all of this is happening. Jess said, staring at her best friend. They were sitting side by side, on the couch, in Cole’s living

room.

“I spoke to Hailey’s lawyer. She still insists she is carrying out her client’s instruction and that you need to sign the divorce papers as soon as possible.”

“If that is what she wants, maybe I would sign them.”

“What the heck? Why would you want to do that?”

“What’s left to fight for? She clearly doesn’t want me.”

Jess sighed. “Look, it is okay to take a break from all these but signing those papers shouldn’t be an option. Hailey probably just needs time.

Cole shook his head. “You don’t know Hailey. She’s very stubborn and doesn’t deviate from whatever she puts her mind to. She has probably moved on while I am just forcing myself on her, causing her to hate me even more.”

“Think of your kids, Cole.”

“Exactly! The twins have been the only reason why I’ve been pushing. It is probably for the best that they stay with their mom. And I hope Hailey will tell them in the future that she pushed their father away from them.”

The Past few weeks have been so insane for me. From trying to restore my company, handling my board duties

at summer Incorporations, Hailey’s sudden appearance, finding out about the twins, divorce papers, restraining orders, Vanessa’s bitchy behavior, and my healing arm.”

“Sometimes I feel like I am going crazy or maybe happiness isn’t for me.”

I can let Hailey go even though it is going to be one of the hardest and most painful things I have ever done and a pain that will dwell with me forever knowing that I had a good woman with me and I let her go.”

“I would have fought for custody of the kids but that means bringing them into the spotlight and endangering them. I’m famous and I know Hailey doesn’t want them in the limelight at least for now.”

“I want to be with Hailey so bad. But it is obvious her heart isn’t with me. I have no choice but to let her go.”

“Are you sure about that?” Jess voiced out with pleading eyes where she was seated beside him.

“Why are you giving me so much hope when there’s none?”

“Because I have so much hope in you both.”

Cole shook his head. “That doesn’t matter anymore. Maybe it is time to face reality and move on. I can’t wait for my arm to heal completely so I can be back to work. I know that would keep me busy and keep my heart away from all the hurt.”

“I am so sorry all of this is happening. I wish there was something I could do.”

“It’s fine. Love can’t be forced. I chased Hailey because I wanted her back. It is nobody’s fault if she can’t reciprocate

the same love I give to her. I’m definitely not worthy of her.”

“And please don’t give me that look. You know how much I hate it when you give me pity looks.”

“I think I am going to go to the bar tonight.”

“You are on medication. You should stay away from alcohol for now if you want your arm to get back to normal as

soon as possible,”

“I really need something strong tonight. I need to be anywhere and do anything that would make me forget her.

“No. I would rather have you stay at home and drink yourself to stupor. Remember you always make silly decisions when you are angry.

“Your phone has been buzzing. You don’t want to answer?” Cole asked.

Jess sighed and stretched towards the table close by where she dumped her phone earlier.

“Cassie. What now!” She frowned, unlocking her phone via her password.

“Holy shit!” Jess mumbled, her frown getting deeper.

“Your client did something shitty?” Cole asked, concerned.

Jess turned her eyes away from her phone and took a glance at Cole.

“Where is your phone?”

In the room. Why do you ask?”

ess sighed in disbelief, passing her phone to Cole.
